Basic Residency Guidelines

The following guidelines and policies are used by The Inn at Marietta to determine whether a resident is a candidate to reside at The Inn.

To insure an optimum level of health, an R.N. and personal care assistants are on duty 24 hours per day to meet the residents' needs. The staff is available to monitor and assist with all aspects of daily living, including personal care.

The Inn at Marietta will provide personal assistance and maintain regulations in accordance with its licensure. The Inn is an "assisted personal care" residence which is licensed as a Residential Care Facility by the Ohio Department of Health.

Mobility:
It is necessary that residents be ambulatory or transferred easily with the assistance of one staff member. Walkers and non-motorized wheelchairs are permitted; provision of these items are the responsibility of the resident. Residents may utilize the mobility assistive devices independently or with assistance for mobility/transportation purpose only.

Behavior:
The resident must be able to communicate their needs, be oriented to place or able to respond to basic reorientation by the staff and cooperate with direction from the staff. The resident must be willing to comply with all facility policies and/or state/federal regulations. The resident must show respect for other residents, staff, and property. Any behavior that may jeopardize the health, safety, physical or mental welfare of the resident, other residents or staff would cause the resident to be inappropriate for residency.

Activities of Daily Living:
Activities of daily living include, but are not limited to, grooming, personal hygiene, and dressing. It is the Inn's policy that personal assistance with activities of daily living be provided and accomplished safely by the assistance of one person. Residents must be able to feed themselves and go to the dining room for meals

Bowel/Bladder Control:
Residents with occasional incontinence problems are accepted if the incontinence can be contained. Residents must be willing to wear protection and accept assistance from the staff. Bedside commodes, bedpans and urinals are not permitted.

Medication Administration/Physician:
Medications may be kept and self administered by residents with their physician's written permission. The R.N., at the request of the physician, will administer medications in accordance with The Inn's policy. In addition, the R.N. or L.P.N. will contact the physician and/or resident's family and arrange for transportation to and from the physician's office or hospital as the resident's conditions warrants. The resident must have or obtain a personal physician and an Inn Health History form must be completed by the person prior to admission. The Inn's policy requires that residents see physician at least once every six months and that a full health assessment is completed by a R.N. or L.P.N. at least annually unless medically indicated sooner.

Special Supportive Services:
Special Services may include assisting with occasional oxygen needs, providing special dietary services, or any need that requires extra time daily from the staff.

Special Care Program

In response to the recognition of our Residents' intensified specific needs, we have developed a special care program that exceeds the established residential personal care services and the standard services of The Inn.

Special Care Services:

  • An increased care giving companion staff ratio with a primary care approach to intensify and expend Resident supervision and attention.
  • Direct cueing and hands-on assistance to provide maximum attention and supervision to the Resident's proper nutrition and hydration.
  • Special intimately designed living accommodations that provide and promote preservation of dignity, safe and secure private personalized space, familiarity of surroundings, and comforts of an appropriately controlled environment with emphasis on anxiety.
  • Reorientation, direction, and assistance consistent with individualized deficits.
  • Special individualized activities to establish a means for Resident satisfaction and contentment.

Indications When Special Care Residency is Recommended:

  • The Personal Services Assessment indicates that the preservation of the Resident's safety and well being is not secured with the extent of assistance and supervision provided on the first 5 levels of care.
  • The Resident is limited in regard to cognition/psychosocial orientation, thus, requires regular and consistent reorientation and/or direction, and continual supervision and monitoring with all activities of daily living.
  • The Resident has a significantly diminished motivation, thus, requires ongoing encouragement, direction, and/or hands-on assistance in regard to activities of daily living.
  • The Resident's physical and/or mental debilitation dictates the need for hands-on assistance with nutritional intake.

In addition to The Inn's established residency guidelines and the special care program, the following conditions will dictate the need for other appropriate placement:

  • Physical combativeness, uncontrollable aggression, or consistent uncooperative behavior, which may jeopardize the Resident's, staff's, and/or other Residents' safety well being.
  • A condition requiring management of physical or chemical restraints.
